The Embodied Path of Yoga: A Return to Simplicity, Practice & Community

Description of the photo

After more than 30 years of yoga at The Sanctuary, we hosted our first own yoga teacher training in April of this year. We have had the pleasure of hosting many outside practitioners for retreats and courses. It is a milestone in our storied history to have hosted our own 200-hour teacher training, where lasting friendships were made and students deepened their understanding and practice of yoga.

There’s something profoundly different about immersing yourself in yoga when it’s not just something you practice for an hour a day, but something you live and breathe. The Embodied Path Teacher Training was exactly that: an immersion into practice, philosophy, embodiment, nature, healing, and community.

Nestled in the jungle and bordered by ocean, The Sanctuary offers a rare kind of simplicity. There are no cars, no busy roads, nowhere to rush to. Everything is walking distance, allowing you to fully soften into the rhythm of the days and into the teachings themselves.

Each morning of the training began at 7:30am with meditation and long-form embodied asana practice — philosophy-infused and deeply rooted in embodiment. At 10:30am, the group gathered together for brunch by the ocean before continuing into the day’s studies exploring anatomy, somatics, embodiment, and yoga philosophy. Evenings closed with Yin and Yoga Nidra practices, offering space to slow down, restore, and integrate.

What made this training especially beautiful was the community that formed within it — a genuinely connected group of both men and women came together from different backgrounds and experiences, creating a space that felt supportive, inspiring, and deeply human.

Outside of the training hours, students could continue nourishing themselves through the many healing offerings available at The Sanctuary — massages, bodywork, and a variety of healing sessions that complemented the depth of the training experience so naturally.

Again and again, the feedback from students reflected a similar outcome: this experience felt transformational not only because of the teachings, but because of the environment and the community that held them.

Many students are already planning to return for advanced training. We couldn’t be more excited to continue building this journey together.

One of the most meaningful parts of this vision is that the training doesn’t end when the course finishes. Once you complete a training with us, you become part of The Sanctuary Sangha community. Graduates are invited to return for future 200-hour training at 50% off the course price, along with discounted access to future advanced training and immersions.

This is not just a one-time training. It’s the beginning of an ongoing path of practice, learning, and community.

Our next 200-hour training takes place in September, when the weather will be cooler. We are deeply looking forward to welcoming another group into this growing sangha.
